ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel compounds are prepared by reacting ornithine or arginine with alpha keto analogs of branched chain essential amino acids, namely valine, leucine and isoleucine. The compounds are useful either individually or as a mixture in the treatment of hepatic disorders which are characterized by hyperammonemia and portal systemic encephalopathy. Use of these compounds in treatment of renal failure also appears promising.
