ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a self-contained emergency lighting fluorescent pack which is mountable to a fluorescent fixture by being placed in-line with a fluorescent lamp having a length shorter than that normally installed in the fluorescent fixture. It may alternatively be mounted in a side-by-side relationship near one of the fluorescent lamps used in the fixture. The emergency fluorescent pack includes a safety cradle which is positioned on the fixture 50 as to prevent energization of the fixture if the fluorescent lamp lit by the pack during power outages is improperly installed in the fixture. the fluorescent pack further includes a high frequency ferro-resonant transformer having operating characteristics that provide for energizing a lamp from batteries within the pack without the need for heating the lamp filaments and without the need for an external ballast. The disclosed emergency lighting fluorescent pack is useful in any building using fluorescent fixtures there it is desired to have illumination during power outages.
