A pulse transmitter delivers, by means of a beam deflection element, in a defined sequence and in defined directions pulsed directional beams, and received beams are directionally selec- tively received. Distance vectors and their changes are eva- luated in a computer for surface or terrain, space and object measurement and/or object recognition and/or sounding of an alarm.
