ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a process for producing pyridines which are aromatically and heteroaromatically substituted in the 2 and 3 position, in which aromatically and heteroaromati- cally substituted ketones, which have at least one reactive methylene group adjacent to the keto group, are reacted with aliphatic oxo compounds, which have an unsaturated carbon bond adjacent to the oxo group, in the gas phase in the presence of ammonia and in the presence of a catalyst having dehydrating and dehydrogenating properties at temperatures from approximately 250 to550°C.
