RAN 4223/58 ABSTRACT There is described a novel process for the manu- facture of 5-cyano-4-methyl-oxazole(1,3) which is an important intermediate in the manufacture of vitamin B6. According to this novel process 5-carbamoyl-4-methyl- -oxazole(1,3) is reacted with a lower alkanecarboxylic acid anhydride in the presence of a nickel or copper catalyst.
