Abstract of the Disclosure There is disclosed a system for controlling the generation of low-frequency sound in a motion picture theater, together with the conventional audible sound, in accordance with an input electrical signal derived from the sound track of a motion picture film. In the prior art, the low-frequency amplifiers were operated in accordance with control signals recorded on the film; spurious control signals could falsely operate these amplifiers. In the invention, low-frequency ampli- fication is provided only when the low-frequency program information signal itself exceeds a threshold level, thus completely guarding against false operation. Additional features of the invention include the provision of an adjustable dynamic response for the low-frequency signal path, adjustable attack and release times for the low- frequency pre-amplifier, lamps for automatically indi- cating the source of a malfunction, and test generators which facilitate a theater installation without the need for excessive play of a test film.
