ABSTRACT A floor feeder for movement of discrete mechanical parts from within a conical hopper to a remote deposit location includes a direct, gravity-feed conical hopper whose lateral cross section has a curved perimeter shape. At an elevated point above the conical hopper, a first rotating drive member is located and at a second location below the conical hopper, another cooperating drive member is located. Extending around these two drive members is an endless conveyor belt with a plurality of spaced apart flights extending outwardly from the surface of the belt. The conical hopper has a slot-like opening extending the full length of one side and the conveyor belt passes through this opening and is substantially flush with the opening. As the conveyor belt passes through the opening of the hopper, discrete mechanical parts are collected and brought to the uppermost point of the conveyor system where they are emptied from the conveyor belt as the belt begins its return path. By arranging the conical hopper with a continuously curved perimeter shape in cross section, the bridging effect frequently occurring with flat-sided hoppers is eliminated and a smooth flow of parts results.
