INTEGRALLY BUILT AND CURED TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY AND METHOD FOR MAKING SAME Abstract of the Disclosure An integral tire and rim assembly in which the tire is built and cured on the rim. The tire is a closed torus crown overlap type having a pair of annular inextensible beads. The rim is an annular and axially continuous unitary rigid member with flanges that extend radially outwardly beyond the minimum diameter of the inextensible bead cores. A run-flat device is included in the tire cavity. The method of making the tire and rim assembly encompasses wrapping of at least one carcass ply circum- ferentially about the rim with the axially outer ends extending axially outward beyond the axial outer edges of said rim, helically winding at least one inextensible member about the rim to form an annular bead core about the carcass ply to secure the carcass ply to the rim, folding the axailly outer ends of the carcass-ply axially across the rim to form a circumferentially extending splice, providing a circumferentially extending tread structure about said ply and placing the tire and rim assembly in a curing apparatus including molding and curing the tire.
