ABSTRACT A transmission system including a main shaft and at least one countershaft, multiple pairs of shiftable ration gears arranged between the main shaft and the countershaft with jaw clutch devices for connecting at least one of at least some of the pairs of gears to one of the shafts. The jaw clutches in- clude at least one resiliently loaded jaw clutch element con- stantly and resiliently urged toward engagement position and positively limited in its response to such urging. A blocker ring is positioned between the jaw clutch element and the gear, the blocker ring encircling the jaw clutch element for normal rotation therewith and having friction means effective for causing rotation of the blocker ring with the gear upon axial urging of the blocking ring toward the gear in response to initiation of a clutching movement by the jaw clutch element. The blocker ring has radially projecting blocker teeth and the jaw clutch element has radially projecting teeth arranged for interference with the blocker teeth upon relative axial movement when the blocker ring is in other than a condition of synchronous rotation with the jaw clutch element. The end faces of the blocker teeth facing the interferring tooth of the jaw clutch element are sloped with respect to the normal plane of the axis of the blocker ring.
