ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: An electrically insulating material for insulating elongate current carrying bodies, e.g. electric cables. The material comprises a tape made of a film of an axially orientated polymer having a thickness less than 200 microns, a significant degree of crystalline order, high tensile strength, a high modulus of elasticity, and the ability to cling to itself. This material is particularly useful for the insulation of electrically conductive cables for use under water and for carrying high voltages.
