SINGLE COPY PERIODICAL DISPENSER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A dispensing apparatus for dispensing individual ones of a stack of flexible, layered articles, including a first article and adjacent articles, includes a housing. An access opening adapted to permit individual withdrawal of the articles by an operator is defined in the housing. Magazine means locate the first article in a position adjacent to the access opening. Scoop means are pivotally mounted adjacent to the access opening to pivot between a closed position closing the access opening and an open position permitting access to the first article through the access opening and preventing access to adjacent articles.
