ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Aliphatic amines are prepared by reacting an aliphatic alcohol or an aliphatic aldehyde with ammonia or a primary or secondary aliphatic amine, in the presence of a homogeneous colloidal catalyst prepared by reducing a copper or silver salt of a carboxylic acid. The catalyst may optionally contain other metal carboxylates.
