-20- RCA 72,972 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A controllable switch is coupled to a source of unregulated direct voltage and in a closed loop with a filter inductor and a storage capacitor and has its on-off state controlled at the horizontal deflection rate to control the voltage across the capacitor and regulate a voltage, A diode is coupled with the filter inductor and storage capacitor to form a second series circuit through which current can continue to flow in the inductor when the controllable switch is opened. The controllable switch is opened abruptly by application of a reverse biasing flyback pulse to its main current conducting path. The flow of current in the filter inductor is smoothed and may extend over the entire horizontal cycle.
