ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Pyrazolidinones of the Formula Image wherein R is a phenyl, phenoxy or a corresponding group mono- substituted or polysubstituted by one or more of F, Cl and Br possess anti-inflammatory activity. They may be prepared by suitable specified reactions of a hydrazine derivative of the formula Image wherein Z is Image ,-C(OH) (CH3)-CH2-CONHNH2, -C(CH3)=CH-CONHNH2 or -C(CH3)=N-NH-CO-CH2X and X is Cl, Br or I; or of Image wherein Z1 and Z2 each are a free or specifically recited functionally modified NH group, Z3 is a free or specifically recited functionally modified CO group; or of a compound of the formula Image wherein Q1 is OH or OH which is functionally modified in a specifically recited manner, or is Cl, Br, or I; or of a compound of the formula Image wherein R2 may be R Image or CH3.
