ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention is directed to a process of removing chemical compounds selected from the group consisting of arsenic, antimony and mixtures thereof from substantially organic liquids which have become available as a result of the distillation of oil shale or coal or of the pressure gasification of coal. Said process comprises a treatment with hydrogen under superatmospheric pressure and elevated temperature and a subsequent separation of the solids.
