Abstract of the Disclosure: Process for regenerating a catalyst comprising palladium supported on a non-palladium carrier for the oxacylation of olefins in the gaseous phase by treating the exhausted catalyst with an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid of up to 10 carbon atoms blended with nitric oxides, nitric acid, peroxides or per-acids, by subsequent drying at temperatures below 90°C and evaporation of the fatty acid to a residual content of below 8 weight %.
