Abstract Novel steroids, having useful antiinflammatory activity, have the structure Image or a 1,2-dehydro derivative thereof, wherein R1 is hydrogen, hydroxy, Image , Image , fluorine, chlorine or bromine; R2 is alkyl or aryl; R3 is aryl, cyano, alkylcarbonyl, aryl- carbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl, alkylsulfonyl or arylsulfonyl; R4 is carbonyl, .beta.-hydroxymethylene, .beta.-chloro- methylene or .beta.-bromomethylene; R5 is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine or bromine; and R6 is hydrogen, fluorine or methyl; wherein aryl is phenyl or phenyl substituted with fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitro, cyano, alkyl or alkoxy; and alkyl and alkoxy are groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms.
