ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A spinnerette plate having multiple capillaries per counterbore can be effectively used to melt-spin fusion melts of acrylonitrile polyner and water without sticking together of individual filaments. The spinnerette plate has a resulting density of capillaries of at least 18 per square cent- imeter of plate surface. The fusion melt is extruded through the spinnerette directly into a steam pressurized solidification zone, the capillaries being spaced so as to prevent premature contact of the extrudate.
