ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A polymer assisted phase inversion process for producing membranes is disclosed which includes forming a casting solution of a solvent resistant polymer and an assisting polymer both dissolved in a mutal solvent. The mutal solvent is extracted from the membrane which is then exposed to a solvent for the assisting polymer which is a non-solvent for the solvent resistant polymer. A preferred solvent resistant polymer is a polyester resin of the general formula Image Wherein a is an integer of at least 3 and not greater than 7, and n is an integer greater than about 45.
