ABSTRACT A process for preparing metal and metal fluoride products wherein a molten mixture containing a metal oxide, a molten metal fluorinating agent and carbon is reacted to produce a gaseous oxide of carbon, a metal fluorinated product derived from the cation of the metal oxide, and a metal derived from the cation of the metal fluorinating agent.
