ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Application relates to new triazolyl-alkanones and triazolyl- alkanols, of the formula Image (I) in which R1 is alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl which is unsubstituted or substi- tuted by alkyl, alkoxy, haloalkyl, halogen, cyano, nitro, dialkylamine. alkoxycarbonyl, alkylsulfonyl, haloalkylsulfonyl, phenylsulfonyl, phenyl, chlorophenyl, benzyl, chlorobenzyl or phenylethyl, or R2 is hydrogen or any of the group defines for R1, or R1 and R2 are joined to form an ali- phatic ring, and A is a keto group or a CH(OH) group, with the proviso that A is not a CH(OH) group when R1 is unsubstituted aryl; and to their use as fungicides. The compounds may be prepared by (a) reaction of a haloketone with 1,2,4-triazole, or (b) by reaction of a hydroxyketone with thionyl- bis-1,2,4-triazole(1), or (c) by reduction of compounds obtained by process variants (a) or (b). The new compounds exhibit strong fungitoxic action against parasitic fungi and find application in the plant protection field.
