Ce procédé consiste à faire réagir un mélange de monoxyde de carbone et d'hydrogène sur un car- boxylate d'alkyle, en présence d'eau, de cobalt, de ruthénium, de vanadium et d'au moins un promoteur iodé. Le procédé convient notamment pour la préparation de l'acétaldehyde, l'éthanol, l'acétate d'éthyle et l'acide acétique à partir d'un carboxylate de méthyle.
