ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A detector tube for detecting specific constituents in air or other gases comprises a tubular housing, a body of material contained in the housing and comprised of a chemically reactive detecting substance, and plugging means in the housing retaining the body against movement along said housing and comprised of sintered ceramic particles. The plugging means may comprise a plug of sintered ceramic particles in a tapering glass tip of said housing, formed by sintering ceramic particles in an end of said housing while drawing out said end to form said tapering glass tip.
