ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE New synthetic cephalosporin compounds which in the form of their sodium and potassium salts exhibit desirable solubility, stability and absorption are produced by the condensation of aldehydes other than formaldehyde and acetaldehyde with 3-thiolated-cephalos- porins having at the 7-position an .alpha.-aminophenylacetamido substituent which can be unsubstituted or substituted with one or more groups unreactive toward aldehydes. Two such compounds are the sodium salt of the reaction product of 2-furfuraldehyde and 7-(.alpha.-amino-p-hydroxy- phenylacetamido)-3-(1,2,3-triazol-5-yl)-3-cephem-4- carboxylic acid (BL-S1052) and the sodium salt of the reaction product of 5-formyl-2-furansulfonic acid and 7-(.alpha.-amino-p-hydroxyphenylacetamido)-3-(1,2,3-triazol- 5-yl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid (BL-S1027).
