ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions containing 3.beta.-hydroxy-5.beta.-oestran-17-one. On administration to humans and other warm- blooded animals these compositions simulate erythropoiesis. These composi- tions are particularly advantageous in that they exhibit an unexpected low level of pyrogenicity as compared to etiocholanolone, a known pyrogen.
