ABSTRACT A process for assaying the urea content of fluids such as blood serum, plasma, urine, and spinal fluid using as reagents ortho-phthalaldehyde and N-(1-naphthyl) ethylene- diamine dihydrochloride. The reaction is very specific for urea, and demonstrates a linear relationship of absorbance and concentration for concentrations of urea nitrogen to 250 mg. per deciliter. In addition, both reagents are stable and the reaction does not require a heating bath.
