ABSTRACT Benzoylpyridines, which are useful inter- mediates in the synthesis of certain pharmaceuticals and agrichemicals, are obtained by a process wherein cyanopyridines are reacted with hydroxy or alkoxy substituted benzenes in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst. Processes for the utilization of these intermediates are also described.
