ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Synthetic magnesium hydroxide or magnesia yielding salt or finely divided MgO is admixed with finely divided chrome ore in which at least 50% of the particles are -325.mesh. The admixture is calcined in a single fire process to yield a dense homogeneous magnesia-chrome grain. The grain can then be processed in a conventional manner into brick shapes which sinter to a very high density. The resulting brick is very dense, has a low porosity. and exhibits a continuous microstructure with a high degree of integrity.
