ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE New pharmaceutical compositions with synergistic properties and, in particular, dosage units thereof, are provided. The composition contains as active ingredients both (a): an amidinopenicillanic acid derivative of the formula Image I in which R is hydrogen or a lower alkanoyloxymethyl radical including the pivaloyloxymethyl radical or atoxic salts thereof; and (b) 2,4-diamino- 5(3,4,5-trimethoxybcnryl)-pyrimidine, (also known under the name trimethoprim), or atoxic salts thereof. This compositions is effective in human and veterinary practice for the treatment of patients suffering from infectious diseases.
