ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tilting roll and tilting roll assembly for the ladder means of a venetian blind and for the ladder cord or tape of a venetian blind is described. The tilting roll is rotatable within a base about the longitudinal axis of the roll and includes a first pair of opening portions which are circumferentially spaced from one another on opposite sides of the axis of rotation of the roll. One cord or tape of the ladder passes over the roll in a circumferential direction into engagement with one of the opening portions while the other tape or cord also passes over the roll in the circumferential direction from the other side and engages the other opening portion. A second pair of opening portions are provided which are axially spaced from the first pair. By providing two pairs of opening portions, which are axially spaced from one another, the same roll can be used at each end of the blind and the lift cords of the blind can be arranged axially inwardly of the ladder means at each end. This has the advantage that it tends to reduce the possibility of the slats moving lengthwise relative to one another, especially in the position of the blind when the lift means are not fully tensioned, e.g. in the fully lowered position.
