ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Switching network for selectively switching one out of a plurality of incoming transmission channels to one out of a plurality of outgoing transmission channels. It comprises a plurality of photogenerators disposed on a panel, respectively associated with the incoming channels and activated by signals conveyed in said channels, and a plurality of photoreceivers disposed on a panel, respectively associated with the out- going channels and generating signals in said channels. The photogenerators are scanned by a receive scanner means and the photo receivers are scanned by a transmit scanner means connected to the receive scanning means. Means are provided for respectively addressing and directing the receive scanner means to a photogenerator to be sensed and the transmit scanner means to a photoreceiver to be activated.
