ABSTRACT molded plastic mandrel of the type which is inserted into the hollow cylindrical center of a core containing convolutely wound material. The mandrel has a center axle which affords mounting and rotation of the core in a dispensing device. Known mandrels have plastic material throughout the length of the center axle and are manufactured with the mold parting plane perpendicular to the center axle. By placement of the mold parting plane parallel to the center axle, the invention provides a mandrel having a trough shaped cavity resulting in a mandrel which uses substantially less plastic.
