ABSTRACT A hollow coupling member made from heat-recoverable metallic material for forming connections with and between tubular and cylindrical substrates such as hydraulic lines has at least one terminal opening for receipt of the substrate. The coupling member is designed to eliminate relative motion between the ends of the member and the substrate during flexure of the assembled connection. To this end the coupling is provided with a main body portion and a terminal stress distribution portion which is generally thinner than the at its end adjacent the terminal opening. The collar tightly grips the substrate upon recovery to prevent relative motion be- tween the coupling and the substrate whilst the reduced thickness of the stress distribution portion allows flexural response of the coupling to flexure of the substrate.
