ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides a process for depositing a metal or alloy on an electrically-conductive workpiece, com- prising placing the workpiece in a low-pressure chamber with a donor medium, establishing an electric field in the chamber with the workpiece acting as an electrode, admitting a carrier gas into the chamber to create a glow-discharge, establishing an arc discharge, which is superimposed on the glow-discharge, for ionizing and creating turbulence in the incoming carrier gas which spatters off metal ions from the donor medium and allowing said metal ions to move, gaining additional energy from the cathode fall, towards the workpiece which they are dis- posited on at high speed.
