Abstract of the Disclosure: A controllable drive for a tape recorder comprises a capstan rotatably mounted on a chassis, a flywheel mounted on and in concentric relationship with the captan, a gear integrally connected with the flywheel in concentric relation- ship therewith, a toothed wheel having an hiatus is rotatably mounted on the chassis and disposed for meshing engagement with the gear, a cam integral with the hiatus wheel, and a link disposed for angular movement on the chassis.
