ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Pyridyl phthalimides having the formula Image wherein R is pyridyl having one halo substituent, one lower alkyl substituent or two lower alkyl substituents; R1 is selected from the group consisting of Image and Image and m is 0 or 1 have been found to be effective in regulating the growth of leguminous plants. Application of these compounds to soybean plants results in auxiliary bud develop- ment as well as stature reduction.
