ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Method and apparatus are provided for carrying out simultaneous multiple manipulations. The method and apparatus are particularly directed toward heterogeneous (two phases) immunoassays, particularly radioimmunoassay (RIA) and immuno- radiometricassays (IRMA and 2-site IRMA). These assays are primarily concerned with the determination of antibodies and immunologically active compounds (antigens and haptans). The device has a plurality of syringes mounted so as to allow for simultaneous and identical movement of the syringe plungers. In addition, means are provided for mounting open tubes, which are employed as solid phase reagents, to the ends of the syringes for the aspiration and discharge of unknown samples, reagents and wash solutions. A reservoir is provided in an upper portion of the apparatus for receiving solutions or dispensing solutions to the syringes. Individual assays may be carried out by using a single syringe and carrying out the process steps by transfers of solutions through a hollow tube.
