ABSTRACT The invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of certain insecticidal - acaricidal esters of carboxylic acids, comprising reacting the acid halide of the acids with the appropriate aldehydes or ketones and with an alkali metal cyanide in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst selected from quaternary ammonium salts, phosphonium salts and crown ethers. The invention also relates to certain phase transfer catalysts, selected from those listed above, useful in the preparation of carboxylic acid esters from the corresponding acid chlorides and aldehydes or ketones.
