ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Process for recovering polyvinyl alcohol from an aqueous solution in the form of an unbulky coagulated matter containing little water and salts which is produced by adding to the solution inorganic substances such as boric acid, borate and sodium sulfate as a coagulating agent in order to coagulate polyvinyl alcohol into gel. and by adding at the same time, a quarternary ammonium base or a salt thereof as an amine having cationic activity in order to concentrate the coagulated matter, and the apparatus with which to carry out the process of recovering described above by providing one or more reaction tanks in which the mentioned co- adulation reaction takes place on addition of the coagulating agent and installing reservoirs for amine in the reaction tanks from which an adequate amount of amine is added to the aqueous solution containing polyvinyl alcohol in the reaction tank.
