ABSTRACT This invention is directed to a moulding for heat retention in the feeder head top surface, when casting molten metals. The moulding comprises about 3 to 15% by weight of an organic binder, about 3 to 15% by weight of an organic fibrous material, in admixture with pulverised charcoal which entirely passes through a 10 mm. sieve and with a member of the group of vermiculite, thermo -expansible graphite and mixtures thereof, the proportion by weight between said pulverised charcoal and said vermiculite, said thermo-expansible graphite or said mixture is 1:0.07-0.20 when the particle size of the pulverised charcoal is in the range of from 10 mm. to 2 mm., and the proportion is 1:0.10-0.40 when the particle size of the pulverised charcoal is not more than 2 mm.
