ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Process for the synthesis of substituted indolenines having the general formula Image in which R is a hydrogen, an alkyl radical, a halogen, or a functional group selected in the group consisting of the hydroxyl and nitro groups, and R1, R2, R3 are identical or different and each represent an alkyl radical, consisting in condensating an aromatic amine and a tertiary hydroxyketone to obtain an ionine and cyclizing the so-obtained imine to obtain the desired product. Such substituted indolenines are used for preparing dyes for natural or synthetic fibers and various products employable in the photographic field.
