Asymmetrical 1:2 chromium complex dyes of formula (I), wherein X signifies - SO3M, -SO2NR1R2 or chlorine, Y signifies hydrogen, -SO3M or chlorine, R1 signifies hydrogen, C1-6-alkyl, C2-3-hydroxyalkyl or a radical of formulae (a) or (b), R2 signifies hydrogen, C1-6-alkyl or C2-3-hydroxyalkyl, or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a 5- or 6-membered saturated heterocycle, R3 signifies hydrogen, C1-2-alkyl, chlorine, -COOM or - SO3M, R4 signifies hydrogen, C1-2-alkyl, C1-2-alkoxy, chlorine or -SO3M, n signifies from 0 to 3, M signifies in each case hydrogen or a non-chromophoric cation, and M+ signifies hydrogen or a non-chromophoric cation, are useful for dyeing artificially produced oxide layers on aluminium or aluminium alloys, on which they produce grey dyeings in high colour yield and hue reproducibility.

L'invention concerne des colorants complexes au chrome 1:2 asymétriques représentés par la formule (I). Dans cette formule, X représente -SO3M, -SO2NR1R2 ou chlore; Y représente hydrogène, -SO3M ou chlore; R1 représente hydrogène, C1-6-alkyle, C2-3-hydroxyalkyle ou un radical représenté par la formule (a) ou (b); R<2> représente hydrogène, C1-6-alkyle, ou C2-3-hydroxyalkyle; ou R<1> et R<2> forment avec l'atome d'azote auquel ils sont liés un hétérocycle saturé à 5 ou 6 chaînons; R<3> représente hydrogène, C1-2-alkyle, chlore, -COOM, ou -SO3M; R4 représente hydrogène, C1-2-alkyle, C1-2-alcoxy, chlore, ou -SO3M; n est compris entre 0 et 3; M représente dans chaque cas hydrogène ou un cation non chromophore; et M<+> représente hydrogène ou un cation non chromophore. Ces composés sont utiles pour colorer des couches d'oxyde produites artificiellement sur de l'aluminium ou des alliages d'aluminium, sur lesquelles ils produisent des colorations grises à rendement de couleur élevé et à reproductibilité de teinte.
