Abstract 1,3,4,6,7-11b-Hexahydro-7-aryl-2H-pyrazino [2,1-a]- isoquinolines and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts useful as chemical intermediates and as pharmaceuticals, and methods for their preparation. These novel compounds have the formula: Image (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen, C1-C7 alkyl, C3-C7 cycloalkyl, C1-C7 alkanoyl, C7-C8 phenylalkyl, phenylacetyl, phenyl or benzoyl, and R2 and R3 are the same or independently hydrogen, halogen, hydroxy, C1-C7 alkanoyloxy, nitro, amino, C1-C7 aminoalkyl, trifluoromethyl, C1-C7 alkyl, C1-C7 alkoxy, C1-C7 alkanoyl, cyano, or C1-C7 alkylamino.
