Abstract The invention relates to novel 1,3,4-thiadiazolyloxyphenylureas which possess herbicidal properties and which have good selectivity in differ- ent crops of cultivated plants. The novel phenyluress have the general formual I Image wherein X is hydrogen, halogen or trifluoromethyl, Y is hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl which can be interrupted by oxygen or substituted by halogen or cyano; C3-C6 cycloalkyl, phenyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by C1-C4 alkyl; or is C1-C4 alkylthio, C1-C4 alkoxy, C1-C4 alkylsulfinyl or C1-C4 alkylsulfonyl, or a sulfamoyl group -SO2NR2R3, R1 is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, R2 is hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl which can be interrupted by oxygen or substituted by halogen or cyano, or is C3-C6 alkenyl or C3-C6 alkynyl, or C3-C6 cycloalkyl, R3 has the same meaning as R2 or is C1-C6 alkoxy.
