ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides 1,3-benzodioxan- prostanoic acid derivatives of the formula Image (I) wherein R1 represents a hydroxyl group, an aliphatic hydro- carbon-oxy group containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms, a methyl- sulphamide group, an aryloxy group selected from phenoxy, 1-naphthoxy and 2-naphthoxy groups, each of which may be substituted by 1 to 3 halogen atoms, one phenyl group, one to three alkyl groups each containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or one chloromethyl, fluoromethyl, trifluoromethyl, carboxyl or hydroxyl group or a group of the formula -O-CH2-U-V, in which U represents a direct bond or a carbonyl or carbonyloxy group and V represents a phenyl group substituted by one or more substituents selected from phenyl groups, aliphatic hydrocarbon- oxy groups containing 1 and 2 carbon atoms and halogen atoms, preferably bromine atoms; A represents a -CH2-CH2- or a trans -CH=CH- group, B represents a -CH2-CH2- or a cis or trans -CH=CH- group; Z represents a hydroxymethylene or a carbonyl group; X...Y, when Z represents a hydroxymethylene group, represents a Image or Image group and, when Z represents a carbonyl group represents a Image or -CH=CH- group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom and R3 and R4 each represents a hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, a trifluoromethyl or methyl group or an aliphatic hydrocarbon-oxy group containing 1 to 2 carbon atoms. The prostaglandins have a strong leutolytic action.
