ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There are disclosed 1,7-dihydro-pyrrolo[3,4-e][1,4]diazepin-2(3H)- one derivative of the formula Image I wherein R is C1-C4 alkyl, R1 is H, C1-C2 alkyl, phenyl, Br, Cl or NO2, R2 is H or C1-C4 alkyl, R3 is H, Cl, F, Br, CF3 or CH3O- ; and Image wherein n is 0 or 1 or -NH-R4 and R4 is unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, alkenyl cycloalkyl or phenyl, which are useful as anticonvulsant and anti-anxiety agents, and a process for producing the same which comprises a) acylating the corresponding 3-OH derivative of formula II, Image II , or b) transforming the corresponding 3-OH derivative of formula II into 3-Cl derivative and etherifying or aminating the chloro derivative with a compound of formula HOR4 or H2NR4, or c) reacting the corresponding 3-OH derivative of formula II with a cyclic anhydride, and optionally d) subjecting a com- pound of formula I wherein R1 is H to chlorination, bromination or nitration.
