ABSTRACT Novel 1-alkyl-androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-diones and their manufacture and use Novel 1-alkyl-androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-diones of the general formula I Image (I) [in which R1 represents methyl, ethyl, hydroxymethyl, (C1-C3-alkoy)-methyl or (C1-C4-alkanoyloxy)-methyl, R6 represents H or methyl and R7 represents H or 7.alpha.- or 7.beta.-methyl] and processes for their manufacture. The novel compounds have an aromatase-inhibiting action and are suitable for fertility control and for the treatment of disorders caused by oestrogens; they may accordingly be made up with suitable carriers into pharmaceutical preparations.
