Abstract of the Disclosure Novel compounds of the formula: Image (I) in which R1 and R2 each represents an alkyl or aryl group, are disclosed as well as a process for their preparation by reacting 3-chloro-4-allyloxy- benzaldehyde with a formaldehyde mercatal S-oxide of the formula: R1SCH2SOR2 (III) in the presence of a base. The compounds (I) are useful as intermediates for preparing pharmaceuticals.
