1 & 4 Aralkyl - 1,2,4-triazoles Abstract of the Disclosure The invention disclosed herein relates to 1 and 4- aralkyl-1,2,4-triazoles of the formula Image (II) wherein Z is a (C6-C10)aryl group optionally substituted with 1-3 substituents selected from the group consisting of halogen, nitro, trihalomethyl, cyano, (C7-C14)aralkyl, (C1-C4)alkyl, (C1-C4)alkoxy, (C1-C4)alkylthio, (C1-C4)alkylsulfinyl, (C1-C4)alkylsulfonyl, and phenoxy, phenylthio, phenylsulfinyl, or phenylsulfonyl, the phenyl moiety of each of which may be substituted with up to two substituents selected from the group consisting of halogen, nitro, trifluoromethyl, cyano, methyl, methoxy, methylthio, methylsulfinyl and methylsulfonyl; R1 is cyano, (C1-C12)alkyl, (C3-C8) cycloalkyl, (C2-C8)alkenyl, (C5-C8)cycloalkenyl, (C2-C8) alkynyl, an optionally substituted (C6-C10)aryl group as defined above; a (C7-C14)aralkyl group , the aryl portion of which is optionally substituted with 1-3 substituents as defined above; R2 is hydrogen, (C1-C12) alkyl, (C3-C8) cycloalkyl, (C2-C8) alkenyl, (C5-C8) cycloalkenyl, (C2-C8) alkynyl, an optionally substituted (C6-C10)aryl group as defined above; a (C7-C14)aralkyl group the aryl portion of which is optionally substituted with 1-3 substituents as defined above; a (C1-C4)alkoxy, (C2-C4)alkenoxy, (C2-C4)alkynoxy, a (C6-C10)aryloxy group or a (C7-C14)aralkoxy group, the aryl moiety of each of which is optionally substituted with 1-3 substituents as defined above; or a hydroxy group; or R1 or R2 when taken together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form (C3-C8) cycloalkyl; Q is 1-(1,2,4-triazole) or 4-(1,2,4-triazole) optionally substituted with 1 or 2 substituents from the group consisting of halogen, (C1-C4) alkyl, nitro and cyano; m is zero or the integer 1 or 2; and n is the integer 1 or 2; and the agronomically acceptable enantiomorphs, acid addition salts and metal salt complexes thereof. Also disclosed is a method of preparing such compounds.
