ABSTRACT 1-Azidoalkylimidazoles of the formula Image wherein X represents hydrogen or nitro; R represents hydrogen, alkyl containing from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, phenyl or halophenyl; and Alk represents alkylene containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms; are herein described. These compounds are useful as antimicrobial and antihypertensive agents. They are prepared by the reaction of sodium azide in N,N-dimethylformamide with 1-[halo or (alkyl or tolylsulfonyl)]alkylimidazoles.
